The Coordination Commission for the Portimão-Lagoa 2027 Mediterranean Beach Games carried out a working visit to the Algarve, focused on monitoring preparations for the event, which will take place next year in Portimão and Lagoa.

At the opening session, Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) President Fernando Gomes highlighted the importance of the coordination and preparation work underway, emphasising the scale of the event and the impact the Games will have on Portuguese sport and the region.

Iakovos Filippousis, Secretary General of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), thanked the Portuguese Olympic Committee, the Organising Committee of the event, for its hospitality before the start of the working sessions.

The first day included several technical sessions focused on the strategic development of the competition, covering areas such as budget planning, sports infrastructure, the sports programme, equipment, marketing, communications, digital platforms and the Games' visual identity.

In the afternoon, the work continued with presentations on accommodation, catering, transport, accreditation, protocol, ceremonies and volunteering.

The first day also included a technical visit to several strategic locations, including operational facilities, hotels and coastal areas associated with the organisation of the Games. The visit allowed the Coordination Commission to assess on site the state of preparation of the infrastructure and services planned for the event.

The day also included a symbolic moment in which the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games officially presented the invitation to the COP to participate in the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. The invitation was received by Pedro Farromba, Executive Director of the COP and the Organising Committee.

The second day of work focused on services for National Olympic Committees, security, medical services and anti-doping.

In addition to the members of the Coordination Commission and the Organising Committee, technical staff from the Municipal Councils involved in organising the Games were also present and contributed to the successful completion of the working sessions.
